Description

I have been growing ferns in my yard since 1980. Despite the small area and the fact that a large house is plopped right in the middle, I have nearly 50 taxa of ferns (and a club-moss) including about two thirds of the native Massachusetts fern species. I will point out some of the identification characteristics used to distinguish them, and discuss some aspects of lighting, watering, and soil structure and chemistry. There may be some spores available for those who want to attempt that rather difficult means of propagation.

Comments

If you have native fern specimens to identify, bring them along.
