Description
I have been growing ferns in my yard since 1980. Despite
the small area and the fact that a large house is plopped
right in the middle, I have nearly 50 taxa of ferns (and a
club-moss) including about two thirds of the native
Massachusetts fern species. I will point out some of the
identification characteristics used to distinguish them, and
discuss some aspects of lighting, watering, and soil
structure and chemistry. There may be some spores available
for those who want to attempt that rather difficult means of
propagation. Comments If you have native fern specimens to identify, bring them
