Description

Most of New England has acidic geology, mainly granite and its derivitives. Western Massachusetts has areas with calcareous rock that allows a more diverse flora. We will look for a couple of dozen fern species, including Spleenworts, Woodsias, Beech, Maidenhair, and Fragile Ferns (although some may be late in their season). We will discuss field identification techniques.

Expect moderate hiking and some poison ivy.
