4:00 Location Bring Description Most of New England has acidic geology, mainly granite
and its derivitives. Western Massachusetts has areas with
calcareous rock that allows a more diverse flora. We will
look for a couple of dozen fern species, including
Spleenworts, Woodsias, Beech, Maidenhair, and Fragile Ferns
(although some may be late in their season). We will discuss
field identification techniques. Expect moderate hiking and some poison ivy. Comments enrolled:
