Description

Most of norhteastern Massachusetts has acidic geology, mainly granite and its derivitives. An area in Bolton with calcareous rock has allowed historic economic usage and a varied flora. We will look for 22 fern species, including Ebony and Maidenhair Spleenworts, Maidenhair and Fragile Ferns (although some may be late in their season). We will discuss field identification techniques. Expect moderate hiking, some poison ivy, but few bugs.
